With Jeff Quinn and his staff entering into their 3rd year at UB, along with the recent hire of Athletic Director Danny White from SEC Country, the bulls need to play in a bowl game this year. If they do not play in a bowl game this year, look for the entire staff to be gone, and replaced with ties to the SEC. The position battle that everyone should be looking for is the quarterback battle.
Chaz Anderson the transfer from Cincinnati, did not play nearly as well as many would have hoped last year, and in my opnion was a wasted year at the position because, that experience could have went to someone who will be on the roster this year. This years quarterbacks consist of two players in Jerry Davis, and Alex Zordich, both of whom have had playing time, but were not sucessful, and two redshirt Freshman, both of whom were highly touted coming out of high school, in Joe Licata, and Tomy Daniel. Whomever Quinn pick to run the offense, he will need to ride with them for the whole year. Dlip flopping between quarterbacks is the last thing that needs to happen.
The offense should be a run based offense this year. With the return of Brandon Oliver in the backfield, and the fact that whomever Quinn picks at quarterback will have a lack of experience, the offense will have to run through him. The question this year is who will back him up. With Jeffvon Gill transferring out, it leaves a hole at the back up position. James Potts and Brandon Murie should provide a dual punch at the back up position.
Another position battle to look for is the wide out opposite of Alex Neutz? The favorite should be incumbent Fred Lee! But with Quinn recruiting a lot of speed, look for one of the freshman recievers to fight for playing time as well.
Look for the offense to go as far as the running game will take them. They surely will be tested early when they go play what is basicilly a preseason game for both teams against Georgia. UB will be able to see who is ready to play, and who has the ability to make a play. Whom ever Quinn pick at quarterback probably will not have a banner year, but whoever it is, if the can limit the turnovers, and keep moving the ball, on simple passing plays, and converting on the long ball, it will help the team out greatly.
